Photo Guide

* If you have any questions or need help choosing your photo, do not hesitate to get in touch and I will happily give you some advice as to if an image is suitable to be used as a reference.*

high quality, detailed images

Please make sure that your images are high quality, detailed images. Working from detailed images makes such a difference to the final portrait. having photos that are of a great quality will ensure that I achieve the highest amount of detail possible.

Make sure that your subject is well lit so that the face can be seen clearly. Over exposed or shadowed images make achieving a high level of detail exceedingly difficult.

bright & clear lighting

full face visible

To make sure your portrait’s composition works well, make sure that the face is fully visible (In addition to chest and ears for pet portraits) Unfortunately, I am unable to illustrate features/elements if they are not visible on the reference image.

Please make sure there are no filters on your photograph as this could lead to distortions on the illustration or could affect the accuracy of the colours in your portrait. We want to make sure your commission is as realistic as possible.

no filters

no blurry, pixilated images

Just like image quality, blurry images make it very difficult to see finer details in an image, so make sure the image you choose is in focus and details can be seen easily.

Please make sure your subject is close to the camera when taking photographs. When the subject is photographed from a distance, details can be lost when zoomed in and can appear blurry.
